Before, the garden was badly divided with no useable spaces, making the area
seem much smaller than it actually was.
In the 'After' we see there was a lot of garden waiting to be discovered. (Click above image to view full-size.)
Once the divisions were removed and the space was opened up we could see how
much space we really had to work with.
The garden was designed, as all gardens should be, to suit the people who
live here. There are seating areas, areas to dine and space to play. (Click above image to view full-size.)
The paving is of bluestone with river flats built in - one of the family
members is a kayaker and canoer. Another family member wanted a place to sit
quietly and read the paper. (Click above image to view full-size.)
The wall is inset with one-of-a-kind hand carved, animal tiles and tiles of
all the family's names. This adds a delightful element for the children while
providing interest and detail for everyone.
Water re-circulates by means of a submersible pump. Various pond fish and Koi
delight the children.
Note how the small but accessible spaces carved out of the overall space - in
the upper and middle right - has the effect of making the entire site seem
larger.
